Mozart, the renowned musical genius, composed a great number of masterpieces for the world which makes him a pivotal figure in the history of western music. When he was still a young teenage, he was working for Salzburg Cathedral when staying in Salzburg with his father, Leopold Mozart, and composed several sacred music pieces, including nine Complete Missae Breves, all written before he turned 22 - an age comparable to that of a an undergraduate at our time.

Since 2021, the CU Chorus has embarked on the "Mozart's Complete Missae Breves" project as we endeavour to introduce these early works of Mozart to the audience of Hong Kong through organising free lecture-concerts in a systematic manner. By showcasing these rarely performed early compositions, we hope that our audience can have a glimpse into Mozart's journey towards becoming a master. The series shall conclude in 2025 with the performance of his iconic sacred composition, the "Coronation Mass".

This unique lecture-concert series, in form of five instalments, takes place at five prominent Catholic churches across Hong Kong, recreating the original performance environments and bringing an immersive musical experience to the audience.

The CU Chorus is committed to bringing high-quality choral music to the society and to enrich people’s lives with choral music that inspires, educates and entertains. The "Mozart's Complete Missae Breves" series, which offers free lecture-concerts to the community, is a significant step that is in line with our mission.  Through performing these pieces and providing introductions to the audience from different walks of life, we hope they can enjoy the experience and learn to appreciate the beauty of music.
